Beware the ninja hamster

A heartfelt plea.

.......................................................................................................

A friend of mine who also rescues animals sent me this link in horror. [link]

The first line says it all in respect to the ill thought-out argument here. IF you can't get your hands on a Go Go Hamster, try the next best thing - a real one!

I am begging you, unless you are prepared to put in an average of 2 1/2 years of dedication and love, don't!

As a hamster rescuer I see the results of impulse buying animals that the owners are not prepared for. Traumatised animals that society will not accept. Real hamsters need care and attention, cost money to keep and maintain, and have feelings. If the owner is not willing to put in the time and energy required the animal may become hostile and scared. This is what happened with Megatron. He was unhandled and basically unwanted. The previous owners returned him to the store, where he was put up for 'adoption' by people who seemed oblivious to the scared animal that they were trying to pass off as a balanced family pet. The poor hamster was screaming with fear.

I took him in and through patience and hard work I now have a cute and handleable animal, but I know that if he feels threatened or scared in any way then he might bite, and if you have been bitten by a hamster then you know that it hurts like heck. I have!

All of my animals are discarded by owners, for one reason or another. I spend a lot of time trying to coax them out and remind them that not all humans are cruel or neglectful.

A Go Go Hamster can be put away and have it's batteries removed when the family tire of it. That isn't the case with a real hamster. Please, I beg you, think hard before impulse buying a pet. It is in effect adding another member to your family.

If you are prepared to put in the work and effort, they reward you with joy and love for their little lives.

Scrooges of 2009

Wed Dec 30, 2009, 10:38 AM

.......................................................................................................

:picknose: Well the winner of the meanest idiots in my world for 2009 goes to the Royal Mail. They didn't deliver a letter as it was 8p under on the postage. I had to collect the letter and the slaggers charged me £1 for not delivering my letter. Total charge £1.08. It should have been delivered before Christmas but the office was shut all the times I could get there before Christmas. What happened to the season of goodwill? I hope someone screws over their afts for next year, and never expect any tips from me! :finger:

OoOoO

On the up side my 'hero' this time is my dentist! :w00t: He had to inform me that not only do I have to have my broken filling done, but that I will need two more fillings due to hidden holes. He X-rayed the offending teeth and then took the time and consideration to show them to me and explain the work that needed doing. He never treats me like an idiot or talks down to me. He is doing the work in two sittings as they require the mouth being numbed and with my usual luck, they are on both sides of the mouth. My appointments are later in the day so that I don't have the humiliation of drooling over my work keyboard.

He is always friendly and cheerful, and is a qualified hypnotist (which helps with those with a fear of the dentist's chair). He always says something nice as well as making his patients smile with his charming manner and soothing Midlands accent.

I have already paid for the treatment. My dentist is an NHS dentist so the charges are reasonable (I pay National Insurance contributions out of my wages). All I have to do now is turn up and allow the Maestro Of The Molars to work his magic!

A Very British Rebellion

Sat Dec 26, 2009, 11:22 AM

.......................................................................................................

This year saw a definite 'rise up and rebel' attitude by the Great British public against tha X Factor winners dominating the much coveted Christmas number 1 slot in the UK music charts. A campaign was started on Facebook (many thanks to :iconsenseiken: for pointing me to the group). I joined the Facebook group and like many others I bought my copy of 'Killing In The Name' by Rage Against the Machine.

I sat down on on Christmas day to watch the chart show and to my delight and to that of many others the Christmas no. 1 in the UK was Rage Against the Machine. The X Factor had been sent a message that they could not brainwash the population into buying the same forgettable mass produced pop any more.

Not all the British population likes these 'Reality Shows'.

A quiet Christmas.

Thu Dec 24, 2009, 9:35 AM

.......................................................................................................

Strangely, this year I will be having a quiet 25th as the family Christmas won't occur until two days later. No pressy opening tomorrow as I will wait until everyone is together. I think I will just get up late and watch films.
